Kegel exercise is actually a therapeutic exercise. It is named after its discoverer, Dr.
Arnold Kegel. Kegel exercising is an exercise that is specifically for the pelvic muscles of the body. It is now
being used to help cure pelvic malfunction, such as urinary tract infections and other urinary illnesses.
The pelvic muscles are the ones responsible in holding your pelvic organs in place. One of today’s most common
diseases include urinary tract infections and bladder diseases which have seriously affected quite a big number of
the population. The young people are mostly the ones affected by this disease because of their unhealthy practices.
People in their 40’s are also the ones affected by this disease. Women with hormonal problems also suffer pelvic
diseases. Their low level of estrogen causes the disease.
Unhealthy eating and drinking habits, paired with unhealthy lifestyle, will
really have a serious effect on our health. The reason why more and more young people are affected with pelvic
diseases is the unhealthy activities they engage into. Pelvic muscles are also responsible in holding and
supporting the bladder, which serves as the drainer of our entire food and beverage intake. Unhealthy food and
drinks cause the bladder to malfunction, also disrupting the function of our pelvic muscles.
Kegel exercises are both done as a form of therapy or in strengthening the pelvic muscles, preventing the
diseases from touching them. Pelvic muscles tend to become weak if we do not take care of them seriously. As a
result, problems with the release and holding of urine occur. The purpose of kegel exercise is to prevent this from
happening. With proper and regular performance of Kegel exercise, we can obtain very strong pelvic muscles which
can perform well its functions.
Before performing a Kegel exercise, it is important that you will be able to locate the correct muscles that
will be the target of the exercise. In locating these muscles, you may need the assistance of a medical
professional. Pelvic muscles in women are located around the vagina, while it is located somewhere in between the
anus and the urethra for the men. For you to be able to successfully perform the exercise, it is very important for
you to locate the exact location of the pelvic muscles.
Kegel exercises are recommended to be done at two times per day. This should be performed for 5-6 minutes. At
first, you may find it hard to sustain the first few performance of kegel exercise because the muscles are still
not that strong. However, after having done it for several times, you muscles become stronger and can already
sustain the pressure exerted on it.
Our pelvic muscles don’t become strong that easily. It would take a lot of work and sacrifice on your part to be
able to strengthen the muscles. Yes, it could be a little sacrifice because, as you may have known, this type of
exercise is painful, especially during the first few tries. However, if you will just consider its life-long
benefits to our health, everything will be worth the pain.
